A properly working and well-maintained Margaritaville margarita machine is the key to making great-tasting drinks. This guide explains how you can take apart and clean your Margaritaville machine.
Please note that disassembling and cleaning instructions may vary from one model to another. It is recommended to go through the user manual before you start cleaning. The instructions given below are generic.
Step 1: Remove the Shaving Paddle
The first step is to remove the shaving paddle. It will allow you to access the individual parts of your machine so that you clean every component on the machine. Begin this step by turning the back of your machine towards you. Now push the ice reservoir release button and remove the ice reservoir. You can access the shaving paddle and ice hopper after removing the ice reservoir.
You need to be very careful of the shaving blade. Ice blades are sharp and can be very dangerous. Carefully press the button behind the ice chute while unscrewing the shaving paddle to safely remove it and set it aside.
Step 2: Remove the Ice Hopper
Once you have removed the shaving paddle, it is time to take out the ice hopper. To do this, you need to press the two ice hopper release catches and then lift the ice hopper. The two catches are located on either side of the machine.
Step 3: Remove the Shaving Blade
Remove the shaving blade to clean it thoroughly. You may need to replace the blade if it produces bigger pieces of ice or takes longer to shave ice. You need to take special care while removing the blade and avoid making contact with it. You must also make sure that kids and your pets are not around while cleaning your machine.
Move the shaving blade assembly nut to the left to loosen it, and then remove the shaving blade and keep it in a safe place.
Step 4: Take Out the Glass Blending Jar
The next step is to take out the glass jar. You will need to lift the spigot to remove the blending jar. Make sure you lift it gently, don’t exert too much pressure, and avoid twisting the jar. You may need to move it back and forth to remove it, but all of this must be done gently. It is best to lift the jar and not twist it. Twisting the jar can result in damaging the base, and it can lead to leaks during operation.
Step 5: Unhook the Blending Jar Base, Gasket, and Blade
Once you have the blending jar in your hand, remove the base of the jar by twisting it. Now you will see a gasket and blade. Be careful of the blade here as well. Your gasket will be wet from operation and jar washing. You may notice slight slipperiness if you haven’t cleaned it recently. Wash it with an eco-friendly dishwashing soap, gently wipe it with a soft and clean cloth, and place it in a safe place.
Step 6: Take Down the Ice Melt Reservoir
The last step in taking apart your machine is to remove the ice melt reservoir. You can do this by pulling the handle straight out while holding the unit in place, so it doesn’t move.
Step 7: Washing the Parts
All the parts used in the Margaritaville margarita machine are dishwasher safe. You can also wash them with your hand but be wary of the blades.
For the dishwasher, place all the parts in the top rack of your dishwasher, and don’t stack them over each other. Always use a normal cycle and a mild detergent. Once the dishwashing cycle is complete, take out all the parts and place them over a clean towel on your kitchen counter. Let them dry naturally, or use a soft cloth to dry all the parts.
Make sure you assemble your machine only after the parts have cooled down, and never use your machine immediately after washing them with hot water. If you add cold liquids and ice to the blending jar and ice reservoir, the abrupt temperature change can cause the glass to crack.
Step 8: Clean the Exterior of the Machine
The last step is to clean the exterior of your machine with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use any solvents to remove any stain or spill traces. The solvents can damage the paint or decals on your machine. You can use one drop of the dishwasher if the stains are extremely stubborn.
Step 9: Reassembling the Machine
The reassembly process works in the same way as you took apart your machine.
Final Words
Cleaning your machine periodically or depending on the frequency of usage is very important. It not only ensures a better taste, but it also results in smooth and fast operation. Margaritaville machine experts recommend cleaning your machine after a party or whenever you feel that it has overworked itself and starts to appear dirty. We suggest you clean the machine’s exterior after every use and perform a general service every 3-4 weeks.
